Daniel O'Donnell danced on Strictly Come Dancing tonight -- here's what you missed
TONIGHT, THE LATEST series of Strictly Come Dancing kicked off on BBC One.
Fifteen celebrities are competing in this year’s series, including our very own Daniel O’Donnell, and tonight we got our first glimpse at the Donegal man on the dancefloor.
So how did he get on?
Well, the singer threw some shapes in his intro video and stated his desire to be able to “trip the light fantastic” when his tenure on Strictly Come Dancing comes to an end.
Then he pointed at the camera.
When his dance partner Kristina Rihanoff told them they would be dancing a waltz to When Irish Eyes Are Smiling, he could scarcely believe it.
Look at his happy head.
He then treated her to a private performance of the song.
Then it was time for the dance itself.
There were shamrocks and rainbows, obviously.
O’Donnell seemed a little bit nervous, but thankfully, the whole thing went off without a hitch.
As for what the judges made of it?
Len Goodman complimented the singer’s footwork (“Your footwork is the best I’ve seen!”) and Bruno Tonioli described it as “very, very pleasing”. Darcy Bussell said that he “danced like a perfect gentleman”.
Craig Revel-Horwood was a little harsher, however, and described it as an “uneventful” affair.
In the end, he was awarded 24 points out of a possible 40, putting him fourth on the leaderboard. Not bad for his first time at the rodeo!
O’Donnell said that he was “very happy” with this score, but he also just seemed really relieved that it was over and done with.
As for what people at home made of it all?
Whoops!

And there were Father Ted references…

One person who definitely enjoyed it, though?
Majella O’Donnell, who was sitting in the audience, looking proud as punch.
D’aw.
